Label „sustainclub" für den VfL Wolfsburg

DEKRA has successfully completed its first project for inspecting sustainability in professional sports. Based on the innovative system of sustainable///sports, Basel, DEKRA Assurance Services has successfully inspected the sustainability activities of Bundesliga soccer club VfL Wolfsburg.
The "sustainclub" label is the first of its kind for sustainability in professional sports. The list of criteria was developed by the Basel-based organization sustainable///sports in conjunction with experts from DEKRA. This system helps the clubs to treat sustainability in sports as a business scenario, identify and implement measures in this area, evaluate the club's performance in terms of sustainability and use the resultant advantages.
The list of criteria covers around 180 assessment areas and is geared towards international initiatives and standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), ISO 26000 and SA 8000. When inspecting VfL Wolfsburg, the experts from DEKRA Assurance Services examined various sustainability criteria such as environment and emissions, management & strategy, energy, and stakeholders & social affairs, assessing them using a traffic-light system. VfL Wolfsburg was awarded a gold label based on its overall score of 274 points out of a possible total of 344.
